The ways in, one per watch
Ride one session as you always do, then open it in CleanJibe. Every turn gets a verdict: flew through, touchdown, or fell in. We ride too, so tell us where it read one of yours wrong.
Take the way in that matches your wrist. Go outside, because every one of them needs GPS and a watch indoors records no positions. They all end the same way. Your session lands in CleanJibe, analysed as it arrives.
beta in the public beta today, not yet in the App Store release.
Garmin, as you ride today
fenix, epix, Forerunner and the rest
You get measured speed
In the browser app. Paste your intervals.icu key into its Settings. Your Garmin sessions arrive there too, on any computer or phone.
Ride as always, with Windsurf or any watersport profile. Connect intervals.icu once, and your old sessions come in too. The CleanJibe watch app adds verdicts on your wrist.
Show the 7 steps
-
Ride as always
Record with Garmin’s Windsurf profile, or SUP, Kitesurf or Surfing. CleanJibe takes every watersport session, and anything named wing or foil.
-
Connect intervals.icu once
Make a free account at intervals.icu and connect Garmin there. Copy your personal API key into Settings → intervals.icu. It takes about 5 minutes.
-
Your old sessions come in too
CleanJibe brings in your last two years of sessions and analyses each one as it lands. After a ride, pull down on Sessions and the new one is on top.
-
Want more? Install the watch app
CleanJibe Wingfoil Tracker (Beta) on Connect IQ buzzes each verdict on your wrist. It counts pump strokes and takeoff attempts, and shows your dry streak.
-
Record and save with it
Press START, pick CleanJibe, wait for GPS good and press START again. To finish, press START to pause, then BACK and Save.
-
No intervals.icu? The long way
Garmin Connect’s phone app cannot export. On a computer, connect.garmin.com → the activity → gear icon → Export File. AirDrop it to the iPhone, then Import → FIT or ZIP….
-
Garmin calls it Windsurf
Garmin has no wingfoil profile, so Garmin and Strava call the session Windsurf. With the watch app, Garmin Connect also shows foil time and flights. Strava does not.
The CleanJibe Apple Watch appbeta
Apple Watch · everything a Garmin gets
You get measured speed and the wrist
In the browser app. This way in needs the iPhone app. A browser cannot reach your watch.
Install it with the CleanJibe beta and record on your wrist. The watch only records, and the iPhone does the analysis.
Show the 4 steps
-
Put it on the watch
It comes with the CleanJibe beta. On the iPhone open Apple’s Watch app, scroll to Available apps, and install CleanJibe if it is missing.
-
Record
Open CleanJibe on the watch, allow Health and Location if it asks, wait until NO GPS clears, press START. Then Stop, and Done.
-
Let it arrive
Open CleanJibe on the iPhone. The session comes across on its own while phone and watch are together. Give it a minute.
-
What you get
Speed comes off the watch’s own receiver, so the records are measured. The 50 Hz wrist gives pump strokes and takeoff attempts.
Apple’s own Workout appbeta
Apple Watch · nothing to install
You get measured speed
In the browser app. This way in needs the iPhone app. Apple Health is closed to a browser.
No extra app on the watch: record a Surfing workout and import it from Apple Health.
Show the 5 steps
-
Start a Surfing workout
On the watch open Workout and pick Surfing. Water Sports works too. Apple Health has no wingfoil activity, so pick the closest one.
-
Ride, then end the workout
End it on the watch and let it save. The route is written to Health when the workout finishes, which can take a minute.
-
Import it on the iPhone
Import → Apple Health. Allow CleanJibe to read workouts and routes. Switch every one on, or there is nothing to read. Then pick yours.
-
Keep it automatic
Switch on Import new Health workouts automatically and the next session is waiting when you open the app.
-
What you get
Speed comes off the watch’s own receiver, so the records are measured. Nothing records your wrist, so there are no pump strokes or takeoff attempts.
Any watch that writes a .fit
Polar, Suunto, COROS and everything else
You get measured speed
In the browser app. Drop the .fit into it, on a computer or any phone. The file never leaves the tab.
Sync it through intervals.icu, or share the file into CleanJibe from Files, Mail, AirDrop or any share sheet.
Show the 5 steps
-
Record on your own watch
Any outdoor activity with GPS, recorded the way you always do. There is nothing of ours to install on these watches.
-
Export the workout as a file
Suunto: Calendar → the workout → ⋯ → FIT. COROS: Activities → the activity → ⋯ → Export → FIT. Polar exports from flow.polar.com only.
-
Take the FIT where you are offered one
A FIT carries the speed your watch measured. A .gpx does not. A .tcx carries it only when the app wrote it in.
-
Hand it to CleanJibe
Open in CleanJibe from the iOS share sheet, or Import → FIT or ZIP…. Foil time, flights, turns and the map are identical either way.
-
Or let intervals.icu do it
Most of these watches sync to intervals.icu too. CleanJibe picks them up from there, through the same 4 steps as the Garmin route.
Strava
any watch that syncs to Strava
You get positions only
Strava lets a new app connect a limited number of riders. If connecting is refused, export the original on strava.com from a computer and import that file.
In the browser app. Strava sign-in needs the iPhone app. Export Original on strava.com gives you a file the browser app opens.
Settings → Strava → Connect with Strava, then Import → Import from Strava…. Strava keeps your track but not your watch’s speed, so records are estimated.
Show the 6 steps
-
Connect once
Settings → Strava → Connect with Strava. Strava’s own consent page opens. Leave the private-activities box ticked, or your “Only you” sessions stay hidden.
-
Pick your sessions
Import → Import from Strava… lists your matching activities of the last two years. Tap the ones you want, or Import all new.
-
Keep it automatic
Once one session has come in this way a toggle appears, and CleanJibe checks Strava whenever you open the app.
-
What it costs
Strava hands over positions rather than the speed your watch measured. These speed records are marked estimated. There are no pump strokes.
-
If connecting is refused
Strava lets a new app connect a limited number of riders. That is nothing to do with your account. Tell us through Menu → Support & ideas.
-
Strava full? Take the file
On a computer, open the activity on strava.com and choose ⋯ → Export Original. AirDrop it to the iPhone, then Import → FIT or ZIP….
No wind today?
20 minutes, no water
Record a 3 to 5 minute walk on the watch. It arrives in CleanJibe like a session would, so you know the whole way in works.
Show the 4 steps
-
3 to 5 minutes of movement
A bike ride draws the nicest track. Anything above about 12 km/h counts as flying. Walking works too. Go outside: indoors there are no positions.
-
Bring it in your own way
Take whichever way in above matches your watch. It answers one question: does a recording made on your watch reach CleanJibe on your phone?
-
What you should see
A map shows your track, with duration and speeds at the top. A speed chart moves when you drag along it.
-
Turns and jibes reading zero
Expected on a bike or on foot: there is nothing to jibe. This checks the way in from the watch, never the analysis.
Which watch
CleanJibe reads a recording, not a brand. What you get back depends on what your file
carries. Each row names the way in that produces it.
Garmin
42 Garmin watches run the CleanJibe watch
app, fenix 8 down to vívoactive. The list below
names them by family. Watch app

Only the fenix 8 has been ridden on real water by us. Every other
family passes in the simulator and is waiting for a rider. Ride one and
tell us how it went.
Apple Watchbeta
Two ways in, and the first one is ours. The
CleanJibe watch app comes with the TestFlight
install and records the wrist at 50 Hz.
Or record a Surfing workout in
Apple’s own Workout app and import it
from Apple Health. The speed is the watch’s own, so records are measured.
Polar, Suunto, COROS and the rest
Take the FIT wherever an app offers you one. It carries the speed
your watch measured. Without it, speed is estimated from positions.
Most of these watches sync to intervals.icu, and anything that reaches Strava
comes in without a file at all. The steps are the
any .fit and Strava cards
above.

Not on the list? Ride with Garmin’s Windsurf profile. You still get every verdict. The Garmin card shows how.
No watch at all works. A phone in a waterproof pouch on your body
records a .gpx. You get the track, the flights, the jibes and their
verdicts, with speed estimated from positions. Help says where to
put the phone.
On Android
There is no CleanJibe app for Android and none is needed. Open
the browser app and drop
the file in. It keeps a library, records and trends like the iPhone app.
On a Garmin, paste your intervals.icu key into the browser app’s Settings.
Garmin Connect’s phone app cannot export a file, so intervals.icu brings your
sessions in.
Install it, and it joins the share sheet. In Chrome, take
Add to Home screen from the menu. It may be called Install app.
After that, hold a .fit or .gpx anywhere on the phone and
choose Share → CleanJibe. The analysis opens on it, with the
file still on the phone.
Your old sessions
Once one session has arrived, the interesting part is your back catalogue. Everything
CleanJibe imports is analysed as it lands, so Records and Trends fill up by themselves.
One button, +, holds every door. Import from Health takes an
Apple Watch. Sync intervals.icu and the Garmin export ZIP
take a Garmin. The ZIP carries your whole history in one import.
Strava takes anything that reaches it. FIT, GPX, TCX or
ZIP takes a Polar, a Suunto, a COROS or any file at all.
Strava hands over positions, not the speed your watch measured. Those sessions’
speed records are marked estimated. Without the watch’s own speed, a
fall can read as a touchdown. Take the same afternoon off intervals.icu instead where
you can.
Strava lets a new app connect a limited number of riders, and the app says so plainly.
If you are told the app is full, tell us. The Strava card
shows the way in through a file.
Not bridged to intervals.icu yet? The four steps, once
- Create a free intervals.icu account
- Connect Garmin in intervals.icu
- Generate your personal API key
- Paste the key into CleanJibe
Step four ends on the app's own button, Save & check.
It verifies the key and says how many activities it can see. The iPhone asks
for one thing, your personal API key. The Athlete ID is the browser analyzer's.
